Note of Appreciation
September 26, 2003

The Protected Areas Association wishes to make special acknowledgement of the family of the late Mr. Augustine St. Croix and the Lung Research Laboratory of Dr. Bruce Pitt at the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) for their support for the protection of Labrador caribou.

Mr. St. Croix, a native of Newfoundland and former resident of Labrador City, recently passed away from lung cancer. The Lung Research Laboratory has informed us that throughout his years in Labrador, Mr. St. Croix expressed concern regarding man’s exploitation of the Canadian wilderness and especially the declining numbers and diminishing habitat of caribou herds. The Lung Research Laboratory, of which Dr. Claudette St. Croix (Mr. St. Croix’s daughter) is affiliated as an Associate Professor, has generously donated $300.00 (U.S.) towards protection of Labrador caribou.

The Protected Areas Association extends condolences to the St. Croix family and sincere appreciation to the Lung Research Laboratory for their donation.
