| Chez Les Francais was formed in 1975, under the Cape St. George Francophone group. Now, it is its own separate association. Its mission is to promote and preserve the French language and culture in the Black Duck Brook area. | |
| The association's main focus is on social and cultural events. It is believed that these events, by focusing on traditional culture and music, as well as bilingualisms, will help preserve the French culture and language. As a result, a French Centre was opened in Black Duck Brook, in 1983, as a place to hold events and house Chez les Francais. | |
| La Chandeleur | |
| Every February, the Candlemas run (La Chandeleur) is held. It is celebrated on the weekend closest to February 2nd (the traditional holiday). Traditionally it involved going house to house to collecting food donations for a celebration dinner, as well as scarves/ribbons; which are tied onto a staff, carried by the King of la Chandeleur to the celebration dinner. Each scarf/ribbon represented each household. | |
| Adult Literacy | |
| French Adult Literacy classes are held two evenings a week in an effort to promote and preserve the French language, which has been effected by the English majority and the fact that in the past French children had to go to English school. | |
