L'HERITAGE DE L'ILE ROUGE

L'Heritage de L'ile rouge is located in Mainland, at the Ecole Ste. Anne school, in the same office as the L'Association Regionale de la cote quest Inc. (ARCO). It has been in existence since 1982. Its purpose is to promote and maintain the French language and culture in the Mainland area.

Community involvement and social interaction is L'Heritage de L'ile rouge main focus in their effort to maintain the French language and culture. Various activities are held to help promote interaction. They include the Winter Carnival, Summer Festival, Walk a thon, Aerobics, Casino Night, Card Games, Dances, Christmas Parades, Santa Visits, Canada Day, the Candlemas run, as well as other activities.

Walk a Thon
The Walk a Thon is held every year in the middle of June. It involves walking the trail from Mainland to Cape St. George. Walkers from Mainland walk to Cape St. George and vice versa. After the walk there is a Social at which food is served.

La Chandeleur
Every February, the Candlemas run (La Chandeleur) is held. It is celebrated on the weekend closest to February 2nd (the traditional holiday). Traditionally it involved going house to house to collect food donations for a celebration dinner, as well as scarves/ribbons; which are tied onto a staff, carried by the King of la Chandeleur to the celebration dinner. Each scarf/ribbon represented each household.
